When a child begins a voyage through the seas of habilitative therapy, he simultaneously embarks on his teaching career. Firstly, he teaches his therapists how he learns. Secondly, he ends up being regularly observed by college students in the fields of psychology, special education, and physical, occupational, or speech therapy.
This past quarter, for the first time, our son had a high school student interested in a career in physical therapy observing him during Monday afternoon appointments. Today, a surprise. She played hookey from her current quarter's investigation (an elementary classroom) to assist with our son's last appointment before his private PT takes off for a couple of months in Florida. She said she missed him.
To the parent of a typical child, this may seem a small thing. For me, it's one of those experiences that gives hope that my son can make his own way in life. When I'm no longer here, there will be people who care, to catch him when he falls.

And to his physical therapist, who sometimes reads this, who was there the day he walked 32 steps, after a year of eights, you are the best ever! Enjoy that sun!

Wow, hand me the kleenex! It is so wonderful when God gives us those hopeful glimpses of the future. I'm so happy that you've had this blessing today, Julana.
So glad for you Julana - what a treasure to have those people in your son's life.
Thank you, Lori and Islandsparrow. We've been privileged to meet so many good people, through the therapy trek.
